KCS offers a broad range of music learning opportunities in partnership with the Manhattan School of Music.
Semester courses are included in KCS tuition.
Lessons
MSM provides a full range of remote music lessons including voice, piano, and strings. Lessons are taught by MSM graduate students using state-of-the-art distance teaching technology specifically developed by MSM and Polycom. Please note: music lessons require an additional charge.
Semester Courses
Music Theory I
Prerequisite: Students should have basic performance skills with voice or an instrument.
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of music theory including pitch, major scales and key signatures, rhythm, meter, and expressive elements.
Music Theory II
Prerequisite: Music Theory I
This course builds on Music Theory I to explore Minor scales and key signatures, Melody, Timbre, Triads, and Seventh chords
Music since 1960
This class explores the historical and cultural forces driving music since the advent of Rock and Roll.
Global Music
An exploration of music traditions around the world through the lenses of culture and the movement of people.
Music Production
This is a hand-on course using Adobe Audition in which students learn the fundamentals music production to include acoustics, recording, and mixing.
